THE WRECKING

The Wrecking on SCTV!

Before their new CD, A New Abolition (Chosen /Executive/Universal Music Christian Group), even hits stores later this summer, The Wrecking is already racking up a list of enviable accomplishments.  The band from Maine has signed a licensing agreement with the MTV Network to place songs from their new CD on MTV shows and networks such as VH1, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Spike TV, among others. Additionally, The Wrecking will be featured on the Underground Sound series set to be released in late May. The 15-song collection showcases up-and-coming artists who represent the "absolute best independent Christian artists."

The band's first radio single from the new CD -- "In Your Eyes" (written by Peter Gabriel) --has just been released to AC/CHR formats, and a new music video of the song will be completed soon. The Wrecking has already formed partnerships with several national and international organizations such as International Justice Mission, Love 146, and NOTW Clothing.

The band is made up of brothers Darren and Doug Elder, who play drums and handle lead vocals respectively, Karl Anderson on keyboards and bass, and Joe McCann takes care of turntables, synth, sampler and vocals.  But what makes this band unique among its peers?

“Both sonically and spiritually,” says Darren, “we are in a constant state of dreaming out loud.  We are always trying to remember that all things are possible with God and possibilities by their very nature are limitless.  We are dependent on God for both the form and function of our communication, whether we are playing in a bar or a church.  We want to see lives transformed through the introduction of the truth of Christ.”

Doug concurs.  “To us, a concert is not complete without some time to connect with individuals. That’s just as much a part of what we do as any melody or chord we play.  It’s a great privilege to be part of the process of connecting people to their Creator and to point them to a God that loves them and has a purpose for their lives.”

Indeed, the songs on the upcoming cd, A New Abolition, were specifically written by the band to highlight scriptural truths.  The title cut speaks of freedom, which Darren describes as “beautiful, powerful and costly. Christ came to set captives free which is more beautiful than we can fathom and more costly than we could ever fear.”  “Inside,” the song chosen for the Underground Sound, Volume One project, is a prayer for God’s light to penetrate the human heart, while “You Remain” is a vertical praise about the unchanging nature of God.

“In Your Eyes,” a song written by Peter Gabriel, is the cd’s only song not written by The Wrecking. “It’s one of our favorite songs of all time,” says Darren. “For us, it speaks of the fullness and completion found only in Christ.”

The Wrecking’s touring schedule is already jam-packed.  Currently part of the One Shot Tour which is playing in several cities across the U.S., the band will again play the main stage at Soulfest in New Hampshire, the largest multi-day music festival in the Northeast.  With all this going for them, The Wrecking keeps a simple philosophy about why they do what they do.

“We hope our songs are accessible and adventurous at the same time,” says Doug.  “We want our lyrics to get lodged securely in people’s heads and hearts.  It’s really all about making that deep connection with God and with each other, using music as the medium.”
